The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called off its long-running industrial action. “Yes, ASUU has called off the strike. The leadership will soon address journalists to confirm this development,” a reliable source close to the ASUU leadership told New Express around 8pm on Thursday. News Express reports that the lecturers’ union embarked on an indefinite strike on November 4, 2018, demanding improved funding of universities and implementation of previous agreements with the government. Speaking earlier today, the National President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, had said that the union was hopeful that the contentious issues would soon be resolved. “We need to get final clearance to make final pronouncement this evening,” he said.
